The number of people looking for information on how to grow taller has been on the rise in the recent past’ with scores of websites being developed to serve this almost desperate need for information on how to increase one’s vertical stature. So what could be behind this renewed interest for information on how to grow taller?

Well’ the first reason that could account for the renewed interest for information on how to grow taller has to be that of people’s renewed appreciation of the benefits that being taller confers to the people who happen to be favored in that way. If our memory serves us right’ we may recall a time when one of the most influential magazines in the United States ran an article on the advantages that being taller confers to the people who happen to be taller (over the ‘midgets’ as shorter people are often somehow derogatorily referred to as). Things like the opportunity for social and economic dominance that this article made reference to are things that would resonate well with most of us’ and with our deepest needs: seeing that most of the activities we undertake on a day to day basis tend to be geared towards attaining social and economic advantage.

Even without getting to read the article on the advantages of being tall’ many of us would still have appreciated those advantages anyway’ though: the article was just an ‘eye-opener.’ Who’ for instance’ doesn’t know that taller men tend to have easier time on the dating scene than shorter men’ who typically have to endure rejection after rejection before they can finally meet a woman who is willing to ‘compromise’ on them. This’ by way’ at least according to social biologists (they guys who study evolutionary stuff)’ is due to the fact that women typically want the best for their children – and seeing the advantages that being tall can confer’ women tend to have to have a preference for having children with taller men’ meaning that shorter men can have a difficult time getting to reproduce (though they occasionally do’ usually through sheer use of wit).

And even without getting to read the article on the advantages of being taller’ every observative person would have’ by now’ noticed the success in climbing either the corporate or the political ladder tends to come much more easily to taller people than to the short.

Another major factor’ besides increased appreciation of the benefits of being taller’ to which the growing interest on information on ‘how to grow taller’ can be attributed is the emergent view in many circles (and especially on the Internet) that it is actually possible to increase one’s own height. As people who have always wanted to be taller hear about this possibility’ it would be reasonable that they would set out seeking information on how to grow taller’ to see how the various programs that promise to help people grow in vertical stature actually work in delivering that result.

Before we even get into the discussion on how you can grow taller in peoples’ eyes’ it would be important for us to start with an appreciation of why you would want to look taller in other peoples’ eyes in the first place.

As it turns out the being perceived as ‘tall’ by other people can confer to you a number of great advantages. For starters – and there are no prices for guessing this’ other people are likely to start respecting you more’ at a subconscious level’ if they start to perceive you as tall. It is an inbuilt thing’ and it always works: that we are primitively wired to feel more inclined to respect taller people than shorter people. A shorter person can still get respected’ it is true’ but he or she will have to work harder for that respect’ whereas a taller person is respected almost by default.

Being perceived as tall could also aid you in the dating game too: seeing that people are more inclined to choose ‘taller mates’ whenever they have an option between a taller person and a shorter person for a sexual mate. For men (who are more quantitative’ rather than qualitative in their selection of mates) this is less obvious’ because a woman of any height is sure to still find suitors. But for women’ well’ let’s just say that it is very clear where the preference lies: in taller men of course; leading to a situation where conspicuously taller men tend to find themselves overwhelmed with female attention’ even as their shorter counterparts struggle to get even a hint of such attention. And at work’ taller people find the climb on the corporate ladder much easier than shorter people’ though it takes a very keen person to notice this trend which has subconscious roots.

Unfortunately’ height tends to be some of those factors that are determined by genetics more than anything else’ so that if you were created to be a short person’ you might find yourself unable to add more than just a few inches to your height even with the best of efforts.

Thankfully though’ height also tends to be more about perception’ than about ‘reality.’ Have you ever noticed that some people we consider tall are actually midgets when objectively measured’ whereas some people we consider really short turn out to be actually people of average heights (or even above average heights)’ only that they come across as ’somehow short’ to us?

The truth of the matter is that there are measures you can take to appear taller to other people (with the respect’ and subsequent success that such a perception is likely to cause you)’ without even adding an inch to your actual physical stature.

One way to appear taller to other people is by working on your posture’ stopping slouching or stooping – and thence walking and sitting straight. It is all about ‘walking tall’ and it can actually make a very short person look relatively tall.

Another way to appear taller to other people is by wearing clothes that make you come across as taller than you actually are. Vertically stripped clothes are a great tool in this endeavor’ as are those shoes that are known to add up to an inch to the wearer’s height without making them look clownish.

From the title of our discussion here’ it is clear that we will be confronting two questions: the first with regard to how to grow taller by your efforts’ and the second’ with regard to what you stand to gain by taking responsibility for your own height.

But before we can even get to discussing how you can grow taller through your own efforts’ and what you stand to gain by doing so’ we first need to answer a question that might be forming in the minds of some of us’ as to whether it is really possible to grow taller through one’s own efforts in the first place. This is a valid question’ especially when you take into consideration the fact that most of us have grown up believing that height is a matter of fate’ and there is absolutely nothing one can do about their own height.

The truth of the matter’ indeed’ is that height is one of the aspects of a person’s nature that are determined genetically’ so that the approximate height you will grow to is more or less predetermined when you are born. What is also true though’ is that most people don’t get to grow to their full potential because although the genes are the main determinants of a person’s potential height’ they are just one element of what goes into determining that height’ as other environmental factors like nutrition during the crucial growing years also come into the picture’ just as things like posture come into play in determining a person’s ultimate height. So while we might not yet have the science for changing the component of a person’s height that is determined by genes’ we definitely do have enough knowledge to address the environmental component: things like diet and posture’ that also have an impact on a person’s ultimate height – and it is indeed these that most programs that promise to help you ‘grow taller’ address.

So the question as to how it is possible then to grow taller through your own proactive efforts gets answered by the fact that by changing your dietary and postural habits’ as well as engaging in exercises that have been known to help people grow taller’ you stand a chance of increasing your height. The idea is basically to eat more of the foods that can help you grow taller’ while also partaking of the exercises that are known to help a person grow taller-and all the while adopting and practicing better postures (basically walking’ sitting and sleeping straight)…and one could just find themselves with quite a good number of inches added to their height at the end of it all.

Turning to the question as to what you stand to gain if you grow taller’ the answer is ’simply a lot:’ from social success (as people tend to subconsciously prefer dating taller people)’ to financial success (as taller people have been seen to have a relatively easier time climbing the corporate ladder) and onto general happiness in life’ as people will typically tend to subconsciously respect you more if you are taller.

Being tall comes with a lot of advantages. It is true that there are those who argue that ‘height’ doesn’t matter. They even go ahead to point at many people who have succeeded in life’ in spite of their diminutive statures. What we are usually not told is that these short people who achieved much (Napoleon is a commonly quoted example)’ were the exception rather than the rule. While it is true that height is not everything’ going by all indications’ it is clear that being tall does kick open some doors’ sometimes quite literally.

Many of us have also been conditioned into believing that we can not grow tall in our adulthood. In other words’ that growth ends the moment our puberty is over. For this reason’ many come to view their short statures as part of their ‘packages’ about which there is nothing they can do.

The truth of the matter’ however’ is that it is possible to grow taller in your adulthood’ sometimes in significant ways; using a few well established exercises.

When we are talking about exercises here’ it is important to note that we are not just talking about the sort that is done in gyms alone (though that variety is very much part of the package). Rather’ we are looking at the term ‘exercises’ in widest sense’ where it basically means ‘activities.’

The exercises through which you can grow taller can be seen as falling into three categories.

In the first category are what can be referred to as dietary exercises. These involve changing your diet’ in favor of the foods that have been shown to foster growth’ and away from foods that have been shown to hinder growth. Looking behind many cases where people didn’t grow to their ‘full potential’ height-wise’ dietary issues tend to arise – where it seems that they lacked these foods that are crucial to their growth’ at their ‘critical growth stages.’ Supplying them with the foods alone in their adulthood wouldn’t’ of course’ be enough to make them taller. But these foods that foster growth’ when used alongside other exercises aimed at making growth possible can go a long way towards making you taller.

In the second category of exercise to help you grow taller’ we have what may be termed as postural exercises. It is by now an established fact that most people become shorter in height as they get on years. It is also an established fact that the reason behind this height retardation is ‘postural mistakes’ – postures that rob you of those crucial height inches. It is possible to learn certain exercises whose use can make correct these postural mistakes and make room for height growth.

In the third category of exercise to help you grow taller’ we have what may be referred to as ‘rest and recuperation’ exercises. Unknown to many of us is the fact for proper growth to take place’ the body needs rest and recuperation. Focused rest and recuperation can indeed help one grow taller – and there are many resources on the Internet to help you with the specifics about all these.

Thus through a combination of focused dietary exercises’ postural exercises and ‘rest/recuperation’ exercises’ it becomes possible to grow taller’ even in your adulthood.
